Vitamin C Infusion Facial, Radcliffes Beauty, £65
LYING in the tranquil surroundings of the recently opened Radcliffes Beauty salon took some of the discomfort out of the Vitamin C Infusion facial.
Actually, it’s not unbearable but if you’re looking for a relaxing pamper session, then this might not be the one for you.
But, on the other hand, if you want to see instant results (and don’t we all?), this treatment won’t let you down.
The infusion of pure Vitamin C, with Vitamins A and E helps to brighten the skin, lighten pigmentation and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
After the skin is cleansed, hot towels are placed over your face to open pores.
Then the beautician gets to work on “extracting” any debris from your skin - in other words popping your blackheads - with a crisp white linen sheet.
Next up, the vitamin C serum is applied and left to do its work for a few minutes, before being removed with a cool cloth.
This does sting, but it only lasts a few seconds and completely dies away once the mixture is removed, leaving your face feeling clean and supple with no tightness. After the treatment, my face was glowing and slightly blotchy but a quick slick of i.d. Bare Escentuals make-up meant I could brave a spot of shopping afterwards.
Radcliffes claim that after just one treatment the tone and texture of your skin is improved by 17 per cent.
And while I did see an instant difference, my skin actually seemed to improve even further over the next few days.
OK, so it does hurt a little, but where there was pain, there was a lot to gain.

A small beauty salon will soon be seen on Route 79 (North Main Street), about 300 feet north of Vanderburg Road in the village of Marlboro.
Marlboro resident and salon owner Bonnie Rappel received a waiver of a site plan from the Planning Board at the board’s Aug. 20 meeting.
BR Eclectic was seeking to convert a current office into a beauty salon with two styling chairs. Rappel, the owner of BR Eclectic, said she would have two styling chairs and two sinks in the building. She said she will be the only employee at the location.
A beauty salon is a permitted use in the C-1 zone where the business was proposed, according to Cheryl Hammel, who represented the applicant.
Rappel said clients would be seen by appointment only at various times between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m.
Space in the upper portion of the building will remain vacant, according to the owner.
It was noted by the board’s professionals that if in the future the rooms above the salon were proposed to be rented out, those plans would have to come before the board.
Rappel is not planning to make any changes to the exterior of the building so as to keep its historic charm. Signs outside the building will remain the same with the exception of changing the wording to highlight her business.
The waiver of site plan approval received unanimous approval from the Planning Board.
Board member Elvera Fernandez recused herself from the hearing because she is a friend of the applicant. Voting in her place was new board alternate Andrew Pargament. Joshua Pollak was the Planning Board’s alternate member but has taken over Sanjay Joshi’s position as a regular member of the board.
Orleans Home Builders’ Wildflower at Marlboro application was scheduled to be heard that evening, but board Chairman Larry Josephs announced that a letter from the applicant requesting an extension of time had been received. The age-restricted housing community planned for Tennent Road is now scheduled to be heard Sept. 17.
